Containergrößen

If you are looking for a container for transport or house building, the search for dimensions is partly crucial. Here you will find all the information you need on the subject of container dimensions and on the TEU and FEU units of measurement. We also clarify why the standardized dimensions are so important for international freight transport. TEU stands for "Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit" and refers to a standard container ship container with a size of 20 feet. The container size is standardized worldwide and is used both for calculating the loading capacities of container ships and for specifying handling values in ports. For example, a ship with a capacity of 1500 TEU can carry 1500 standard containers with a length of 20 feet (1 foot = 0.30479 meters).

The standard dimensions of a 1-TEU container are 5,898 mm x 2,352 mm x 2,390 mm, while the standard specifies 12,032 mm x 2,352 mm x 2,395 mm for a 1-FEU container. However, different results can occur here due to different designs and superstructures: Platform containers consist only of a floor structure without walls, whereas thermal containers for transporting beverages or foodstuffs are equipped with an appropriate refrigeration unit and insulation to protect sensitive goods. Hazardous material containers for the transport of oil, gasoline or gas have explosion-proof electrical installations as well as special baffle wall interior types, which should prevent the cargo from rocking - the latter also applies to containers used in air freight: These are adapted to the special conditions of the cargo hold of aircraft.

ISO standard 668 regulates the size and weight specifications of intermodal freight containers. The standard specifies, among other things, the external and internal dimensions, the size of the door opening, the tare weight, and the stackability and support conditions. The standard was supplemented and extended several times in the following years. The current version of ISO 668 is R-668 E/2013.

Regulated container parameters:

  • External and internal dimensions
  • Door opening size
  • Empty weight
  • Stackability
  • brackets, crossbars, loading rails

Thanks to their identical design, ISO containers offer decisive advantages in transport handling: they can be stacked and transported on all container ships without any problems - regardless of whether the ship comes from Europe, Asia or the USA. They also fit on any truck or freight train. ISO 668 standardized containers are subject to certain quality criteria in terms of load-bearing capacity, safety and weather resistance, which they must meet without exception.

The reefer container is a special sea container, which has its insulation and refrigeration unit inside. This makes the dimensions of the container different from the usual container sizes. You can buy the same standard of container, but with a different volume.

Storage containers are versatile and can be used stationary or mobile. They offer excellent possibilities for flexible storage and are therefore ideal for companies of all sizes. Due to their design, storage containers have the characteristic of being able to be moved quickly. Thus, storage containers offer perfect opportunities for flexible storage.

Containers are an efficient way to transport goods. In the course of the last century, various experiments were conducted on the container market. Several variants of containers were tested, but only 20-foot sea container was future-proof. This container has an English name "TEU" (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit).

The 20 feet High Cube container offers you several advantages. It allows you to save transportation costs and at the same time protect the environment, as you can choose the lower emission standard. The 20 feet High Cube container has a height of almost 2.70 m inside the container hull. This means about 30 cm more interior height compared to a standard container. Thus, it can be used for bulky goods or bulk cargo that is higher than 2.40 m. This container is also widely used in plant engineering.

The sea container is therefore ideal for conversions. Also in the worldwide maritime transport, this container is used for goods transport or also as a storage container. So you can transport the sea container with CSC plate ideally by truck or ship—of course also for your, removal completion or export (SOC). Of course, in addition, the basic container can be used for further expansion and conversion work.

Thanks to the removable roof, the container can also be used to transport bulky goods without any problems. In addition, the roof features bows that can be removed for loading and unloading with a crane or trolley. In the 20' High Cube version, the container is also available as an open-top container.

The newer generation flat racks offer a reasonable and solid alternative to standard containers when the cargo exceeds the dimensions. Thanks to the numerous lashing rings, the cargo can be secured safely and in accordance with legal requirements. For example, boxes that exceed the dimensions of a closed container can be loaded - even the attachment of stanchion technology is possible, so a lateral boundary can be created without having to give up the other advantages of a flat rack container. Since no roof restricts these containers, for example, large machines or components can safely begin their journey from their destination.

There are two types of Flat Rack Container, "fixed ends" and "collapsible". The fixed ended flat rack containers cannot be collapsed. In collapsible flatracks, the front walls can be folded. Then the containers become a platform, so you can stack empty containers.

The 20' reefer container offers 37.28 m³ of temperature-controlled space, which is ideal for storage and transport. Depending on the model and machine, you can set the temperature of the container between -40 °C and +35 °C. Fully insulated, with stainless steel and aluminum interior surfaces, the refrigerated container is easy to maintain. The HC (High Cube) model is approximately 30 cm higher than a standard refrigerated container. The container can be operated with either a 32 A 3-phase/5-pole or marine plug.

The 40-foot container is an English name for FEU (Forty Foot Equivalent Unit). This type of sea container is particularly in demand. It is the gold standard of logistics. But a large, robust container is not only recognized in the trade. Its mobility and resilience allow it to be used in many ways. There are many ideas that are limited only to the imagination.A 40-foot container is not as long as 20-foot containers. A 40-foot sea container is 6,058 mm longer than two TEUs. The reason for this is that when two places are placed, a 40-foot sea container can be taken, thus guaranteeing cargo safety.

40-foot High Cube containers are great for transportation, storage or business of large quantities of goods. These containers are higher than traditional 40-foot sea containers and have an advantage of about 30 cm. However, this is only significant if you need to transport a lot of different goods. So, if you are looking for a large capacity container, you should look for the abbreviation "HC". 40 HC sea containers offer you many advantages: they can transport bulk cargo and large machinery, and are well suited for the cargo whose dimensions exceed those of a standard container in length, width and height, as well as the volume.
